Many older adults, people with disabilities, and households with limited income share common struggles. More than 40% delay needed home repairs because of cost (Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies, Improving America’s Housing, 2023). Nearly half of adults with disabilities report difficulty finding reliable support (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Disability Data Brief, 2023). Over half of older adults say they need more help learning to use technology safely (AARP, Tech Trends, 2024). These challenges often overlap, making daily life less safe, less connected, and more stressful.
House and Mouse was formed to address these needs with practical, affordable, and reliable support. We provide repairs that keep homes safe, make technology more accessible, and offer guidance to build confidence. By combining handyman services with technical support, we give you one trusted partner—helping you stay safe, independent, and connected to your community.
John
Founder and
Executive Director
John holds a master’s degree in adult education and has more than 35 years of experience developing and delivering training. He worked with leading technology companies for over 30 years, focusing on helping people understand and use technology in ways that support their work. In the later part of his career, he focused on smart devices, their security, and how to respond when systems are compromised.
He has more than 20 years of experience in practical and professional home repair, including kitchen and bathroom renovations. His work includes tiling, basic carpentry, drywall, and interior painting. He is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS). OSHA30 certified, and is passionate about providing a functional and accessible living environment for his customers. He regularly volunteers with mission-focused organizations that support underserved communities.
John has experience working directly with seniors and adults with disabilities. He worked as an interpreter for individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing and supported individuals who are blind or visually impaired. He applies this experience to provide clear communication, patient support, and practical solutions tailored to individual needs. His work focuses on improving accessibility, reducing safety risks, and supporting safe, independent living at home.
Our Team
House and Mouse is guided by committed leadership and a growing network of volunteers and advisors. Our Board of Directors provides oversight and direction, ensuring that we stay true to our mission and values. Day-to-day operations are managed by our Executive Director, with support from community partners and volunteers who bring hands-on skills, energy, and experience.

Rodney
Vice Chair and
Business Development Officer
Rodney has more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry. He retired from a major New York public authority responsible for building facilities for the state university and mental health systems, where he oversaw large-scale infrastructure and compliance projects.
As a resident of Westfield, New Jersey for more than 20 years, Rodney brings deep practical knowledge and community awareness. His experience ranges from structural planning to day-to-day problem-solving on complex sites.
Rodney combines technical expertise, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to accessibility, safety, and independence. His focus on reliable workmanship and thoughtful design reflects his belief that every home should support comfort, dignity, accessibility, and long-term well-being.
Colleen
Secretary and
Operations and Governance Officer
Colleen brings a background in biology and public health. She spent 25 years with an environmental engineering firm managing projects in planning, permitting, and remediation, followed by more than a decade teaching biology and environmental science at local public and private high schools.
Outside of work, Colleen and her husband, Joe, raised three children and restored two century homes in Plainfield, New Jersey. Later, she managed the full renovation of her son’s house, combining her technical and organizational experience.
Colleen blends scientific training, practical skills, and a lifelong interest in healthy, efficient, and sustainable homes with a steady commitment to community service and hands-on improvement.
